2006 Stewardship Campaign

The Time For Us To Be
Conduits Of Amazing Grace

by Dana Cary and the Stewardship Campaign Committee

Is it too early to wonder what 2006 will bring at Mid-Coast Presbyterian Church? Not according to our sitting Elders.

The Session’s timeline for accepting an asking budget was early September. The “asking budget” is the operating budget compiled by the Session with input from throughout the church. It is the budget that Session is “asking” the congregation and friends of MCPC to support in 2006. It began when all groups within the church formulated their “wish lists” for the coming year. Needless to say, not all wishes can be met, regardless of how good the ideas or how positive their impact might be. The process of converting these wish lists into a realistic, operating church budget required careful analysis, thoughtful ordering of priorities, and positive dialogue on the part of the Session. The result is a budget that calls for a 9.5% increase over 2005 spending. The projected operating budget for 2006 is $169,200.

Also not too early in MCPC thinking about 2006, the Stewardship Campaign Committee is considering what it means to be “Conduits of Amazing Grace.” How can the congregation translate that message into initiatives and action? MCPC wants to be a conduit to the Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Program, Bright Start, Habitat for Humanity and the many other causes supported by our treasury. The Stewardship Committee is asking you to support these programs and all other items included in the projected operating budget through prayerful consideration and generous pledging. The MCPC Session has voted that any excess funds pledged to this budget will be used solely for additional mission funding and activity.

It is also not too early to plan for the repayment of MCPC’s mortgage loan. Lenders at the Presbyterian Loan and Investment Program gave the permission we requested to conduct our own campaign to raise $220,000 for the building fund during the 2006-08 giving period. Along with campaign permission came a mandate to proceed as quickly as possible. The congregation and friends of MCPC are being asked to make a second pledge. The second pledge is to this building fund and will be spread out over 2006-08. Look for a letter in the mail that will explain the Stewardship process.

Remember that as “Conduits of Amazing Grace” lives are transformed; our lives and the lives of others. Our lives are enriched when we touch others with gifts of time, talent, and treasure. Be generous with your gifts.

Gift and Memorial Fund Donations

On occasion, people may wish to make a gift to Mid-Coast Presbyterian Church to honor a special person or time in memory. Often that results from the memory of a loved family member or friend. Some examples are funeral memorial gifts, combined memorial gifts for a special purpose, and others. Also, gifts of desired and useful items are a great blessing and will be an appreciated form of stewardship.

Mid-Coast Presbyterian Church maintains a Memorial Book in the lobby of the church to commemorate gifts given both in remembrance of departed persons and for special gifts, commemorating a special person or event.

Stewardship Campaign Update

As of December 15, the 2005 Stewardship Campaign Committee has received 92 pledges for a total of $143,500, an increase of 10,500 over the 2004 campaign.  Thank you to the individuals and families who have, through their commitments, become :Stewards of God's Grace," our theme for this year's drive.

The average pledge for 2005 is $1,560, or 12.2% over the per-pledge average for last year.  However, the number of pledges received so far is less than the 99 pledging units in last year's campaign, and we are still somewhat below our goal of $152,950 for this year's pledge total.

If you have not responded to the Stewardship Campaign, we encourage you to mail your pledge card to the church, or simply drop it in the offering plate on Sunday morning.  If you need another response, or if you wish to discuss your pledge, we welcome you to speak with Dana Cary, Clee Miller or Kevin Gallagher.
